Curated by Bay Area beat master Giulio Xavier, it’s our Tuesday scene: a live Jazz-infused jam session, Dilla meets Coltrane, featuring musical guests from across the Bay Area, LA, and New York.
PHER, the Oakland native and global singing phenomenon formerly known as Chris Turner, is a former SFJAZZ High School All-Star. Pher is a rare artist fully versed in both the jazz tradition and classic soul, and equally comfortable in either universe. He gained invaluable experience in the Bay Area scene before decamping to New York, studying at the New School, and working with a staggering list of major jazz, soul, and R&B artists including Robert Glasper, Esperanza Spalding, Keyon Harrold, Bilal, Jamire Williams, Marquis Hill, Harvey Mason, Kris Bowers, and Emanuel Harrold.
