Chris Ro for GOBI, Thick As Thieves: Opening Reception
August 19 | 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm
Thick As Thieves
Works by Chris Ro
Curated by GOBI
Chris Ro is a Seoul-based artist who comes from a background of graphic design and architecture. His recent work explores various methods and approaches to the visualization of concepts that normally may be considered invisible. By combining printmaking and painting techniques, Ro examines how traces and the processes of repetition and production lead to questions around originality, humanity, and sincerity. He is interested in humanizing machine-like processes, such as silk screening or printing, by allowing the work to embody more human-like intuition and interpretations. Ro’s work has been exhibited globally and is part of the permanent collections at the Victoria and Albert Museum, Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Die Neue Sammlung, National Hangeul Museum, Seoul National University Museum of Art, and Platform-L Contemporary Art Center. Chris is a member of the Alliance Graphique Internationale (AGI).
GOBI is a curatorial initiative that softens boundaries between Art–Culture and Aesthetic–Function. Through exhibitions, experiences, and collaborations, GOBI highlights contemporary artists, designers, and cultural producers of Korea and diasporic communities in Los Angeles.
