Baltimore-raised, Joy Postell, is a singer/songwriter who provides a sultry, soulful sound with a theatrical twist. Joy began her music career in middle school where she studied theater and the arts. Throughout her time in high school, she began to record cover songs on her mother’s Tascam 4-track machine before releasing her original music on SoundCloud which gained more traction than expected, around when she relocated to Los Angeles for college. In 2016, Postell released her first single titled “Consciousness” and from there, her music career catapulted. In 2018, Postell released her first album Diaspora and later set the bar high in 2019 with her EP Back and Forth. After a brief hiatus, Postell made a strong return with the release of her EP The Magician, which received high praises from Hot 97, VIBE Magazine, and Okayplayer. Up next is Postell’s latest EP, High Priestess, slated to release in early October 2023. Featured in Pitchfork, The Fader, and The New York Times, Joy Postell has been easily recognized as THE breakout R&B artist to look out for.
