We stand with our DC Community

Update, January 14th:

All of us at LINE DC stand unequivocally against the violent insurrection that took place last week at the Capitol. We are deeply troubled by this hateful display and assault on our democracy. Out of an abundance of caution and in response to our neighbors and community, LINE DC is closing to the public from January 16th through 20th. All reservations are being canceled and refunds are being issued.

We are honoring the existing reservations of several small groups well known to us including members of a non-profit relief organization who are long-term partners of the hotel, a small private event for DC locals that was previously scheduled (and is compliant with local COVID guidelines), and a handful of other corporate clients of LINE DC. All of these guests have been thoroughly vetted and are in no way connected with the riots at the Capitol or hate groups. As indoor dining is currently banned in DC, the hotel’s restaurants and bars will remain closed to the public and, during this period of closure, takeout and delivery will also be suspended to avoid additional traffic to the hotel.

If you have any questions, please reach out to Hotel General Manager Sophie Penichet at spenichet@thelinehotel.com.

Message from January 6th:

We take the current situation in DC extremely seriously. As you are aware, the city and its hotels are experiencing a high number of visitors, some of whom are anti-mask activists and some who are attempting to incite violence, which we unequivocally condemn. We want to take a moment to inform our neighbors and the community about an incident that occurred on January 5th near the hotel, and the actions we have taken in response.

It is not within our legal right to police the beliefs or politics of our guests other than to strongly enforce a zero-tolerance policy for violent, hateful or disrespectful behavior, which we have always done. We were informed by MPD that an altercation had occurred near the hotel property involving Proud Boys, and that our guests were involved in the incident. We quickly and actively cooperated with MPD to evict the suspects and they were escorted off property. To our knowledge, no other Proud Boys were guests of the hotel. Further, we proceeded to close reservations for that day.

Since then, we have been reviewing all policies, procedures and plans in light of media reports of ongoing potential threats and we will post additional information here. In the short term, we have reiterated very clearly in our guest pre-arrival communications our zero-tolerance policy for hateful and violent behavior as well as our strict mask policy and all staff have been trained, empowered and provided support resources to enforce these rules.

We are grateful to our team on the ground. All of us at the LINE DC stand with Adams Morgan.
